In Memory of Estella Scott-Roberts

In Memory of Estella Scott-Roberts "Unless a significant emphasis is placed on the well-being of our people from babies to our elderly, our social problems will continue to increase and many of them have the potential to get out of control. More possibilities are opening up, but unless as a girl-child and a woman you are empowered, the opportunity will slip right by you."

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our colleague and friend Estella Scott-Roberts who dedicated her life to the advancement of women. In her professional capacity, she began her career as the Officer for Women’s Affairs in the then Ministry of Community Development, Women’s Affairs, Youth and Sports. In her role at the Ministry, she was the Coordinator of the Domestic Violence Intervention Training Programme (DVITP), the National Committee Against Domestic Abuse (NCADA) and the National Policy on Gender Equity and Equality and she worked closely with the Women’s Resource Centre. She later became the first Executive Director of the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre (CICC), a safe shelter for abused women and their children.

There are few words to describe the depth of the heartache we are feeling. Estella was an extraordinary woman who with her kindness and generosity dedicated her life to empowering others and making the Cayman Islands a better place for women and children.

Not only was she an intelligent and professional colleague whom we admired and respected, she was a dear and trusted friend. As we move forward on this difficult road, we walk taller knowing that she is beside us every step of the way.
